CHAPTER II

KID SISTER celebrates ONE YEAR…and an introduction to LAB NOTES.

I learn experientially. I am so far only convinced that change is divine and constant.

Greetings everyone! Am I becoming my mother in the 2000s? Why, yes, indeed, because Niko and I are taking up digital scrapbooking/blogging to document our process and to share our thoughts and curiosities concerning theatre-making, collaboration, and current obsessions, as well as our conversations with makers in the community who are actively dismantling the conservative conventions of how and why we make and produce theatre. We hope LAB NOTES will offer you creative fodder to take into your own processes and encourage you to be “good thieves” with us (quoting Anne Bogart who stole from Grotowski—teehee).

Rapport and reunion seem to be the source of action over the past two weeks. Pre-production meetings and late-night strolls with Niko and my new pal, a pup called Beara, seemed to alchemize our collaborative spirits after a five-month hiatus--due to a frantic spring semester and graduate program applications and interviews. Last Thursday evening, Niko and I were generously seated by his former co-worker on the patio of Nomad East. We sipped funky natural wine and devoured the smoked-salmon salad only to choke on the notion that we were celebrating one year of KID SISTER’s inception. It was quite amusing and perhaps destined to share some delectable food and bev-y with my creative partner who, in a year of seemingly exponential development and consuming several extra large Diet Cokes from the 7-Eleven, I trust most deeply in the experimental environment we have cultivated together.

KID SISTER SUMMER is about to begin, and we are so thrilled to continue to play with each other and our expanding community of makers and friends. Never hesitate to reach out to us for a chat, to explore a particular curiosity, or dance around in a studio with us.

Cheers!
